The 1st International Safe Community Summer School
Safe community certifiers’ program and injury surveillance course
(Tabriz: 2-7 September 2018)
Injuries and violence pose a major public health and development problem worldwide. According to recent estimates, each year over 5 million people around the world die as a result of an injury. However, this total pales in comparison to the huge numbers who suffer non-fatal, disabling injuries each day. Although injuries and violence affect people of all ages, races and socioeconomic status, we know that the majority of the injury burden occurs among those from low-income and middle-income countries.
Over the past few decades, as more attention has been paid to the worldwide problem of injuries, we have come to a better understanding of the nature and extent of injuries and violence. Accidents and injuries are no longer perceived as wholly random, unavoidable events but rather as ones that are largely preventable.
Addressing injures is an important in injury prevention planning, and the best approach for it is injury surveillance. For this aim, we will hold a summer school (7 days) to go deep into injury surveillance and it’s systems by focus on major injury problems that need to be addressed.
As International Safe Community Certifying Center (Karolinska institute) has planned to hold the second education program for International Safe Community Certifiers in Iranian international safe community support center (Tabriz), so this program will be a part of summer school as well.
For covering both courses (injury surveillance & Safe community certification program), we defined two separated courses in summer school’s program:
Course A: Injury surveillance
Application for this course is open for all applicants
The applicants will be approved by Iranian International Safe Community Support Center
Course B: Safe community certification program
Application for this course is specified only for those in safe community program
