Biostatistics is a branch of statistics (applied) that focuses on the development and use of statistical
methods that address issues and answers to questions raised in health, medicine, and genetics and
human biology. Graduates will be able to apply for teaching and research at universities and
research centers. The history of biostatistics in our country dates back to the middle of the 20th
century, while the first biostatistics department in Iran and the Tehran University School of Public
Health in 1965 was founded by Dr. Nahapatian.
At that time, the Department of Biostatistics began to provide education and research in the field of
Biostatistics by providing a Bachelor's degree in Biostatistics And at the same time presented to the
entire University of Tehran educational services and research consultancy. The above-mentioned
biostatistics department has been integrated with the Department of Epidemiology of the University
in 1972 and has since continued admitting and training to undergraduate students and in recent
years in Ph.D.
